VernonI flew out to Vernon last Saturday to see my girlfriend, Abby. The weather was almost perfect and the forecast was for more of the same. But of course, for the last three days its been foggy and overcast with a blinding white sky. Looking back, I should have taken advantage of the one nice day I had to take pictures. This is a shot of Coldstream, located just outside of Vernon.

Chrome Chasing

Fishing For Chrome-  It’s been months since I’ve got out on the ocean to do some fishing, and it’s just starting to get on my nerves. That’s one problem about living down in Victoria, I have no place to store my boat, so getting out on the water isn’t as easy as when I lived on Quadra Island. Up there, I just drop the boat in the water and I’m gone for as long as I want. This is a picture of a 21.5 lb salmon my dad caught last April. We had left the dock around 6:30 am and headed to our morning fishing hole. After a couple of hours with no bites we decided to go to a place with a very low chance of catching a salmon. We made one pass along the rocks and turned back into open water. Within seconds he was into this gem. After a good fight we landed the fish and headed in. That’s why I love fishing, even if you catch nothing it was a good day, but some times you get lucky in the most unlikely of spots and it tops the day off.

Cover Shot

It had been awhile since I heard from Steve Weatherbe, the Editor of the Business Examiner. As I clicked to open his e-mail, I thought, “Please let this be an easy cover photo.” Of course it wasn’t all that easy. As I read the description of what he needed, my mind raced for ideas and items I could get. Steve wanted a “logger” in front of a gravestone with sunshine, not a hard photo, but getting the gear and sunshine in the same place wasn’t easy. Anyway, after waiting until the last possible second, the sun came out and I got the shot and met the deadline.

My dads a retired faller and I know when I show him this photo, I will get laughed at for the size of the saw, no suspenders, no hard hat and no face shield. However, that’s what makes photography a challenge, you can only deal with what you have.
